Number One Fan
There is no greater joy that I know
than seeing a child’s smile firsthand
Who has just caught their first ball
thrown from their father’s hand
As their eyes expand to full capacity
with anticipation they eagerly wait
For to them this is the World Series
playing with a hero they see as great
The ball is released and begins to travel
goose bumps jump as if they felt ice
The little fielder boldly holds up his glove
wanting to make this catch at any price
Spinning and rotating round and round
stitches in the rawhide hypnotize
The moment of truth is drawing nearer
his little hand he tries to stabilize
The meteor drops right in his glove
he closes the pocket as he falls down
Now trembling with utter excitement
he springs up as if he won a crown
All the diamonds and glory of the big league
do not share the memories that this one can
As the father throws out the very first pitch
that lands in the glove of his number one fan
