Grandma's switch

I remember it like it was yesterday

looking down from a tree

I was hiding from my grandma

she wanted to punish me

I could feel that wind blowing

the tree swayed side to side

But I would rather have fallen

than grandma tan my hide

She would yell for me to come down

and then I’d try to negotiate

She’d tell me how many spankings

then I would decide to wait

she loved to open the kitchen window

as I stayed perched like and owl

but the more I could smell dinner

my stomach continued to growl

the next time she came out calling

I was ready for a compromise

When I conceded to a counter offer

I was in for a big surprise

You decide if she welched on our bet

but I want to add one more thing

I would rather have stayed in the tree

Than felt those switches sting
